Levallion Lawrence (L.L.) Page was born on July 8, 1919 in Raleigh, Mississippi to Van Buren and Mary Elizabeth Gipson Page. His spent his childhood in Prentiss, Mississippi where he accepted Christ and became a member of Prentiss First Baptist Church. As a teenager, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Shelby. This experience helped to enrich his farming and carpentry skills. Later, he joined the United States Army and then the Army Air Force. While on military duty in Louisiana, he met and married Cecelia Cornwell (1941). Afterward, he was ordered to Tuskegee where he served as an Airman in the 332nd Corps. While serving with the Tuskegee Airmen, he served in the European Theater during World War II. He was deployed to Italy (Rome-Arno) where he distinguished himself as a leader. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the most senior non-commissioned officer in his company. L.L. led a company of 325 men and was a dispatcher in the Quartermaster Trucking Company. In 1945, he received an honorable discharge.
L.L. desired to provide the best for his family led him to bring them to Grambling in 1951, where he felt more educational opportunities were available. For a time, he managed The Spot Café until he became the driver for R.W.E. Jones (Prez) of Grambling State University. Afterward, L.L. served Grambling State University as an electrician. After 29 years he retired from the “school house,” and worked as an utilities inspector for the town of Grambling for another 21 years. However, his work in the community of Grambling was never-ending.
Shortly after moving to Grambling, L.L. joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church where we was a
dedicated member, serving as a deacon, usher, Usher Board President, and custodian.
Levallion was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Longeno, Raynor, and Theodore and his sister Geraldine. Those who will always cherish his memory, his wife Cecelia, his son Lawrence (Beverly), his daughter Lorraine (Marc), his brother James Caranza (Doretha); his grandchildren Donovyn, Sanford (Tonette), Kimberly (Leonard), Wilford, Reginald (Destina), Eric, Kiyyah, Marcus (LaToya), and Marlon; his great grandchildren Donovyn II (Shaquisha), Joi, Christopher, Justin, Ariana, Krystal, Tyler, Victoria, Devon, Colby, Ki, Leonard, Cheyenne, Dekota, David, Tristan; his great-grandchildren Jordyn, Mariah, Damarion, and his nephews, nieces, cousins, and many, many friends.
