Coach Michael Allyn Lyons was born to the union of Bill and Eddie Lee Lyons on January 22, 1951, in Monroe, Louisiana.
He spent his early years in Monroe, Louisiana where he attended Swayze Elementary School and Richwood High School. He later moved to Ruston, Louisiana where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969. He excelled in athletics to the extent that he earned a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education in 1973. He also received a master's degree in Education Administration from Louisiana Tech University and a master's degree in Health and Physical Education from Grambling State University.
In 1979, he was hired as the Girls and Boys Basketball Coach at Grambling High School. Along with coaching, Michael Lyons became Assistant Principal in 1996 and Director of Athletics in 2001. His career spanned thirty years, all of which were at Grambling High School.
During his tenure as a coach, he was able to instill in his players and students a willingness to work hard, to learn and to succeed. His positive attitude and love for the game and kids was evident throughout the school and community.
A man held in high esteem by his peers, Coach Lyons was honored many times for his accomplishments on and off the court. Coach Lyons is man of great character- morally, spiritually and professionally. He is one of the most respected men to ever coach basketball in high school. Coach Lyons is also a member of the Grambling State University Gallery of Distinction and the Boys' Top 28 Hall of Fame.

Darryl Jackson-Lyons, Los Angeles, CA; Jermanus (April) Lyons, Ruston, LA; two daughters, Heather (Frederick) Moore-Dupree, and Hailey Moore, both of Dallas, TX; a loving sister, Connie (Ozzie) Manning of Ruston, LA; one niece/daughter Jeralyn Williams, Houston, TX and one aunt Dicie Williams; eight grandchildren Kelsey Wilson, Tatyana Jenkins, De’Anthony Lyons, Carlos Jenkins, Jr., Destiny Jenkins, Jermanus Lyons, Jr., Trysten Dupree and Dayon Lyons; six great grandchildren Ava McMillan, Kendrell Brice, Jr., Ashton Wilson, Najee Spivey, Jr., Emory Jenkins, and Denver Lyons. A host of relatives and friends.
