GUY TYRONE PRATHER, Professional Football Player, Corporate Executive, Father, Minister, Motivational Speaker and Mentor. Guy Prather transitioned into eternity on April 18, 2016 at Levine & banned wordson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina. Guy was born in Sandy Spring, Maryland in 1958 and graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1976. He received "All State/All Met" honors from the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun for high school football in 1975 and 1976. He was a three time letter winner in football, track and field, shot put and discus thrower. Guy accepted a football scholarship to Grambling State University playing under the legendary coach Eddie Robinson where he became a starter his sophomore year at linebacker. In 1978 and 1979 he received all Southwestern Athletic Conference "SWAC" awards. He graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. In 1980 he began his career as a free agent linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys and later landed a roster spot with the Green Bay Packers under Coach Bart Starr from 1981 through 1986, where he still holds the record for most Special Teams tackles in a season. After retiring in 1986, Guy had stints with modeling and soap opera acting for the Ford modeling agency in New York City. Guy then moved on to Corporate America where he held Executive and Finance positions at Rutgers University, the Jimmy Carter Foundation Center in Atlanta, GA, and the DC Bar in Washington DC. He returned to school at Carin University, formally known as Philadelphia Biblical University in Pennsylvania where he earned his second Bachelor's degree in Theology/Theological Studies. In his desire to give back he joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where he mentored many young athletes in the North Eastern Chapter. He then pursued a Master's in Divinity from Howard University. He later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012 where he worked as a Senior Consultant for South American Missions (SAM). In 2015, he worked as a Director of Business Operations and as a Victims Advocate with a primary focus in Domestic Violence for Safe Alliance Charlotte. In early spring of 2016, he was inducted into the Gaithersburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Guy T. was known for his leadership ability and his spiritual gift of ministering to others from youth through adulthood. As a young man he exemplified dedication and focus, by beholding true identity and love while encouraging others into their purpose and destiny. His journey was one which pioneered the way for many others. He had a quiet subtle fight in his soul in order to overcome many odds. He is remembered for his laughter, his smile and humble heart. He has served and mentored many young athletes by teaching them how to set and reach purposeful goals and self-identify. Of those athletes, most went on to play at the collegiate level and from the collegiate level on to the National Football League. He also served as team Chaplin for several Big 10 schools, shepherding many young athletes, the coaching administration and families. He was an aggressive football player on the field who also knew how to hang up his uniform and still be able to minister to his teammates. He has tackled his last opponent here on earth and brought home the victory. Guy Tyrone Prather was 58 years old, son of the late Houston and Theodora Prather. He is survived by his children Christian Lacayanga, Aleah Prather and Guy T. Prather, Jr.; siblings Vicki, Crystal, Blake and Lisa Prather, John P., Steve J., Tony M., Bernie H., John A.; former wife Kathy; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
