UL System names search committee for Grambling State Presidentwww.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014140423015&gcheck=1BATON ROUGE – The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System launched two campus presidential searches with the appointment of search committees by Board Chair E. Gerald “T-Boy” Hebert and announcement of meeting dates. The Northwestern State University Presidential Search Committee will meet on the Natchitoches campus on Wednesday, May 7, and the Grambling State University Presidential Search Committee will meet on the Grambling campus on Thursday, May 8. “Having participated in multiple presidential searches in the past, I take my responsibility to form these two search committees very seriously. I believe these teams of Board, faculty, student, alumni, and community representatives will work hard to identify the best successors for Presidents Pogue and Webb,” said Hebert. Each committee will hold its first meeting on campus to go over the search committee charge, approve a draft advertisement and tentative timeline, as well as conduct a public forum so faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members can voice their desired qualifications for a new president. All search committee meetings are open to the public. Voting members of the Grambling Presidential Search Committee include UL System Board Members Andre Coudrain of Hammond, Edward Crawford, III of Shreveport, David Guidry of Natalbany, Board Chair E. Gerald “T-Boy” Hebert of Kenner, Student Member Davante Lewis (until June), Jimmy Long, Sr. of Natchitoches, Board Vice Chair Jimmie “Beau” Martin, Jr. of Cut Off, D. Wayne Parker of Choudrant, Mark Romero of Lafayette, and Winfred Sibille of Sunset. Also serving as a voting member is Grambling Faculty Senate President Herbert Simmons. Serving as advisory, non-voting members are Grambling National Alumni Association President Melissa Bickham, community representative Wilbert Ellis, community representative Mildred Gallot, and SGA President Erik Johnson. UL System President Sandra Woodley will serve as the non-voting committee chair. For more information about the Grambling Search, visit www.ulsystem.edu/GramblingSearch. Questions and comments can be emailed to gsupresidentialsrch@uls.state.la.us.

How does Wilbert Ellis get on every search committee involving Grambling?

Man I said the same thing. It's time to get away from that Ellis bull s--t . Ellis was only a dean over the barracks. Now he is on every committees. It's time to get away from that old mom and pop grocery store mentality and start to handle Grambling like a first class university.

Why isn't the Mayor of Grambling on the committee? Atleast this one isn't stacked with people from Monroe. Ellis should not be on anymore committees.

I apologize if it seem as though I came down on Ellis, because I respect the man. But I'm sure we can find some one else to serve on those commitiees.

I would think that Dr. Joseph Johnson, Dr. Steve Favors, Dr. Joyce Montgomery, Attorney Ingrid Johnson, Willis Reed, Dr. Ruby Higgins, and some others would be far more appropriate on the committee to pick the next president at Grambling State University than Coach Wilbert Ellis.....I take an exception to atleast a couple of other names on the committee.....How can you get the best outcome of a committee if it is stacked to achieve a certain outcome from the start?.....We need to start to put integrity back into our searches and eliminate the politics and bullshiit.....I don't apologize for what I have said.

There is a petition circulating to have GUNA President Melissa Bickham as a voting member of the committee. While I wholeheartedly agree that there should be a GSU alum (or two) I just don't feel confident that it should be Melissa. Can someone tell me anything she has done as GUNAA president to make us think that she would be a valuable asset to have on the committee that chooses our next president.
You need someone on that committee who is not afraid to speak up and go against the Jindall grain. Our school is at stake and we need to act as if we understand that. We need to unite and present this committee with at least two candidates that we, the Alumni, will put our United support behind.
The Board of Supervisors have never shown any interest in seeing Grambling grow. They have never taken a stand for the good of Grambling. Hell they all but ignored alumni who complained about the leadership at GSU. Not until the students spoke up that they felt the need to even listen. This is why ALUMNI has got to unite in order to get some respect. Jindall and his cronies are going to keep overlooking our concerns until we come as a united front.
BTW: I love Coach Ellis like a play cudin but I agree that he is not the one. He has always been known amongst Gramblinites as "Go with the wind Wilbert". In other words NOT one to go against the grain. If we see that in our own Legend, THEY see it too.
This is my opinion, I'm entitled to it. No debate is necessary.

Explain or list the potential adverse consequences to the Jindal Administration for repurposing or marginalizing GSU and its Stakeholders, be it financially or politically or otherwise.

I hope some of you can make it to the meetings and if they open the floor up to questions then please stand up and voice your concerns about Grambling State.

It will be controlled just watch.....I bet they also limit the participation.....Gramblinites will show civility and professionalism, but they probably don't think so. Nonsense. I went through GSU Presidential searches in 1998, 2004, and 2010. In each case, there were public hearings. Before the Search Committee identifies candidates, members of the public are given time at public meetings to share their opinions and ideas with the Committee. The finalists were brought to campus. The public had the opportunity to pose questions each finalist. Instead of spouting drivel, do something constructive. Develop a list of qualities that you want of the next President. When the finalists are named, research their backgrounds and employment history. Attend Committee hearings in Baton Rouge and on GSU's campus. Take the time to meet and greet the Board members of the Search Committee. Also, share your concerns with the Board members and the members of the Committee the University and City of Grambling. It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

It's nonsense that you went through presidential searches since 2001, yet they have resulted in us hiring Dr. Judson and Dr. Pogue.....You can slow your roll with your poetic justice.....Some of us know the real story.
