The Yard is changing according to this photo. There is word that all the trees in The Yard are being cut. There's hope that it's just being pruned.

The tree is being prune for the Plaza renovations. Also some trees are going to be cut down but not all to give it a more visual appearence. Most will be prune. www.gram.edu/about/campus/beautification/docs/CampusBeautificationUpdateSept242013.pdfNow go over the document from the link below for the Grambling Beautification Project Phase II. The last several pages have diagrams on what is to be changed and what materials will be used to improve the area around the student union and food court as well as what trees to be prune and removed from both quads and in front of Brown Hall. The plaza area will look so much better with new benches, trash cans, landscaping, upgraded lighting and a TRANSLUCENT ACCENT WALL. wwwprd1.doa.louisiana.gov/OSP/LaPAC/agency/pdf/5506600.pdfNow I'm hoping the huge Tiger Statue will be completed and delivered by Nov. 2. The foundry in New Mexico is working around the clock but not sure if it will be ready in time for homecoming. Waiting on comfirmation from the artist. It's looking great so far.

I'm glad they are not removing this symbol from the campus.
Is it just me that finds it interesting that this administration always starts tearing up the campus around homecoming... I guess it's a part of their propaganda package.
I thought that commons area was manageable for the moment... But I guess classrooms, laboratories, locker rooms, and other learning spaces that students actually use consistently, are on the back burner. I guess they aren't as visible as this area of the campus.

The artist confirmed to me that the Tiger Statue will not be ready for homecoming. The foundry don't want to rush the product and compromise the quality. However, they have confirmed that the statue will be ready for shipment on Nov. 18 bound for GSU on a large open bed trailer.

$60,000 to $100,000 for a tiger... and the president says 'budget cuts' when it comes to making renovations to football facilities... Hypocrites It will make the quad area look great and I'm happy about it and the work that has been put into sprucing it up. Also the football facilites have looked bad for years before Pogue got here but now its all his fault. You are the hyocrite! I really never gave it a thought how bad our facilites were until 2002 when I started to visit other universities in Texas and then I come back to GSU and see the campus. However, I still loved the yard no matter what. I'm jumping for joy knowing that the Intramural Center will finally be renovated and expanded to become a Health and Wellness Center. I thanked some students the last time I was down for voting for the student fee because the state wasn't going to give the money anytime soon.

In business, priorities are important. You have to determine what is more important and more valuable to the constituent base. Student facilities, or a tiger in the quad. Any student vote would lean towards facilities.
To your other points.... You hire administrators that are willing and able to take the university to the next level of excellence... not to give in to the notion that problems existed before I arrived, so I don't have to fix them.
The facilities have had minor maintenance over the years, but they sometimes need major periodic repair... And the major repair just happened to be under Pogue's watch.
Past problems become your problems when you assume the leadership role.

I suggested they take out a loan/third party financing to renovate the field house and stadium. Fans will show up and noisy people just to see what we are doing.

Also they are happy about the fountain and the large G in front of Brown Hall. It was great to see students seating on the benches around all three areas when I came down for the Lamar game.

Not asking for entire facility renovations... Ceiling tile, and mondo floor is not a big request... But they were told no!!
Can you explain this?
$100,000 tiger VS. $25,000 renovation

I like the tiger as well... Don't have a problem with it. But, when I am aware of more urgent necessities, I would hold off on the tiger, and fix unsanitary and deplorable conditions. What do you think the students would say? No, I don't like tigers. Please don't put a tiger in the quad. If they knew about both projects, and would have to choose, they would choose fixing facilities for the student athletes.

Can you explain this? $100,000 tiger VS. $25,000 renovation I'm trying to get some clarification on this matter. I have read the Legends group and the Friends of Football was told to deposit the money into the Grambling Foundation and it looks to me they didn't want to do this and problems started from there. Now the Tiger Statue was part of the Campus Beautification Project and glad they established the committee for ideas on sprucing up the visual appearance of the grounds.

The quad gets spruced up, and the football area gets renovated. You have to be rational about these things... Bad leadership if you asked me. Be a little more diplomatic about things. Not just doing things your own way. Compassion and being considerate goes a long way. Those players deserve more, considering they fund all other sports when they show up on Saturdays. This is what the players are advocating for.... Support and respect!!!
