I am so ready for this process to begin... and I am confident I am not the only one.
The search for a new president will be one of the most important and challenging task for the Grambling family—in quite some time. It will be tough, but necessary. I just hope it's soon.

Unfortunately, Sorrell may be a couple years away. Presently, he is doing some coursework. Would be an interesting candidate/choice.

I could support Michael Sorrell as president... hiring him, along with a seasoned senior management staff would be a huge step in the right direction.

He's done some great things for Paul Quinn College. He's very involved with the students, with the community and with Dallas politics. He stands up for what is best for Paul Quinn. He's young enough and old enough at the same time.

We need to first identify the qualities that we would like to see in our next president.....I would like to see us consult with a brilliant educational mind like Cornell West ,Michael Eric Dyson, and a few others mixed with some Gramblinites input.

GSU is not ready for Michael Sorrell with his directness, you can best believe there would be an entire staff shake-up.

Mr. Sorrells would be a great candidate. Paul Quinn won HBCU of the year last year if I am not mistaken. GSU does not take kindly to outsider telling them what to do, ain't that right Ray. "SMH" must be the new norm.....

GSU does not take kindly to outsider telling them what to do, ain't that right Ray. ... I can't speak for Grambling but I don't take kindly to clueless people outsider or insider telling me what to do. You should know that. The search for the next president should have started when the last president was hired. We are already behind.

"SMH" must be the new norm..... No one should or needs to be told what to do... If they do, perhaps they shouldn't be at Grambling... But an education and an 'information' campaign process must take place. People don't seem to understand what is required in order for Grambling to be around for another 30 to 50 years... Standards and expectations need to be raised. People need to be held accountable and evaluated on performance and results; not on name and where they're from.

It would be nice if we could get Benjamin Jealous the current NAACP president.....He could do wonders with a school like Grambling......He is resigning from his post with the NAACP at the end of the year.....That would be great timing for us if we planned.

We really need an 'administration' just as much as we need a president... One person cannot govern or fix these problems on their own.
We have got to have a team of folk that know what the hell they are doing... And they all need to have some sort of experience in senior level management in higher ed; business, marketing, student recruitment, fundraising, human resources, athletics, alumni development; and have state and national political connections.
We will also need a very experienced interim president in the meantime. This will be equally important as we transition.

Dr. Ainsley Carry Ainsley Carry, an administrator with two decades of experience in higher education, has been appointed vice provost of Student Affairs at USC. “Dr. Carry brings a broad perspective to higher education leadership, having held positions at a range of public and private institutions,” Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Elizabeth Garrett wrote in a memo to USC faculty and staff. “He was the first in his family to complete a bachelor’s degree, and his upbringing fostered his advocacy for personal development and student leadership.” Carry comes to USC from Auburn University in Alabama, where he served as vice president for Student Affairs overseeing 15 units and more than 120 employees. In this capacity, he successfully rebuilt a division that had been substantially reorganized in 2004, and he established initiatives to advance student learning, retention and leadership development with the Office of the Provost, College of Human Sciences, College of Education and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. He also created the first university-wide convocation program and the approval of a new $72 million Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. Prior to joining Auburn, Carry was associate vice president and dean of students at Temple University in Philadelphia. There he designed and coordinated the strategic planning process for the Division of Student Affairs, as well as instituted a comprehensive program review process for all departments within the division. He also launched the Student Learning Collaborative, an interdisciplinary effort to enhance classroom-based learning through activities held outside of the classroom. In addition to his duties as an administrator, Carry served as an assistant professor of higher education administration at Auburn and an assistant professor of educational leadership and policy at Temple. He has also taught at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; John Brown University in Arkansas; and Southern Methodist University. He holds an EdD in higher education, an MS in counselor education and a BS in food and resource economics, all from the University of Florida. He also holds an MBA from Auburn. He is a former member of the Florida Gator football team. studentaffairs.usc.edu/2013/07/dr-ainsley-carry-named-new-head-of-student-affairs/Resume: www.tnstate.edu/presidentsearch/images/ainsleyCarryResume.pdfDr. Carry was one of four finalist for President at Tennessee State University. Dr. Julianne Malveaux A respected labor economist, noted author, and colorful commentator, Dr. Julianne Malveaux has long been recognized for her progressive and insightful observations. The 15th president of Bennett College, America's oldest historically black college for women, Malveaux has been hailed by Dr. Cornel West as "the most iconoclastic public intellectual in the country." Armed with a PhD. in economics from MIT, Malveaux is shaping public opinion in 21st century America through her contributions to the public dialogue on issues such as race, culture, gender, and their economic impacts. Well-versed in today's economic issues, Malveaux offers expert analysis on economic events such as "the great recession" and their impact on minority communities and public policy. Malveaux has been the architect of exciting and innovative transformations at Bennett. Under her leadership, the college's administration has identified four key focus areas: women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, excellence in communications, and global awareness. During her presidency, the college has successfully received a 10-year reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, markedly improved existing facilities, embarked on a $21 million capital improvements program — which marked the first major campus construction in more than 25 years — and in fall 2009 enjoyed an historic enrollment high. Moreover, the campus is alive and invigorated with a new sense of purpose and passion, as the Bennett College community embraces its commitment to create an oasis where women are educated, celebrated, and transformed into 21st century leaders and global thinkers. Malveaux has served on the faculty or visiting faculty of the New School for Social Research, San Francisco State University, the University of California-Berkley, College of Notre Dame, Michigan State University, and Howard University. She holds honorary degrees from Sojourner Douglas College, Marygrove College, University of the District of Columbia, and Benedict College. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics at Boston College.
