I am waiting to hear his concrete plans for addressing all these deficits and obstacles... all I hear is complaining. All educational institution in the country are under going monumental changes... as it relates to budgets. We need action plans. Complaining doesn't get us anywhere.

This lets me know that you have not been involved with the university because this administration have been complaining for the last three years about the budget cuts and in all the fall and spring convocations the President and his entire administration have laid out the plans on what they are doing to address these matters. Now don't get me wrong, it won't be easy but GSU will get through this and we (Alumni) do need to give more. Our giving is horrible! I have talked to so many alumni right her in Dallas/Ft. Worth that hasn't been back to GSU since they walked across T.H. Harris and some in over twenty years. Now it's like GSU is no good for their children now and that makes me made as hell!!!

I have been at the convocations, and participated at the retreats... And I hear (copy and paste) ideas, but not concrete result oriented plans. I never hear results at the events... Do you? It's been 3 years. 1) The president said he wanted enrollment at 8,000. I haven't seen the recruitment, enrollment, and outreach plan to increase to 8,000. Enrollment in fact is stagnant. 2) The budget has been cut in half. I haven't seen the plan to raise funds from corporate, business, and alumni. Please tell us how much money has he raised from alumni, corporate, state and federal grants, etc. 3) How many alumni chapters has the president and alumni director visited. 4) have you received any letters from the president (to alumni) regarding his vision, plans and the results of his 3 years... And how we can help. I could go on, but it appears you know about these plans... Please share with us the plans and the results. I'll wait.

Since you want to go around and say the the President don't have a vision or hasn't done anything to move GSU forward, then I want destroy your vision. Here we go again with more bullsh@t about the sky is falling and etc, etc. I have been hearing this same old crap for years. So just like I use to say to Mr. Evans which believes me to say you must be him, Grambling State University will be just fine. Also they have done things to try to increase enrollment because I have participated in High School Day and student outreach. How you and me can help is giving and encourging other alumni to give but it doesn't help when all you and others do is talk negative about Grambling to others. I say if you talk negative on this board then nine out of ten you talking negative to others not on this board. Some people would take your comments about GSU and view it in a very negative way and not give or let there children enroll. I do know Grambling has had problems over the years but Grambling State University means alot to me and I'll fight you and anybody who is always talking down about her instead of uplifting her up. However, I do get the feeling that you do love our university but its just annoying hearing the same crap over and over about nothing is improving. Alot of our problems can be solve if more of our sorry a$$ alumni would get off their a$$ and support the university by giving. PWC solve a majority of their problems because they have the cash by alumni support which is giving. If our alumni would visit the GSU website then they would see the information about the Presidents message about the giving campaign. However, I have voiced my opinion that they need to make it easier for alumni to give online with gifts as low as twenty-five or fifty dollars because not everyone can give a $1000. I can't give $1000 at this time but I can give twenty-five to fifty a month and so many others can to but they don't make it available and thats the part that ticks me off.

A choir is made up of many voices, including yours and mine. If one by one all go silent then all that will be left are the soloists.
Don’t let a loud few determine the nature of the sound. It makes for poor harmony and diminishes the song...
— To allow a 'few' dictate the future of an institution is death. I wouldn't be so passive with trusting individuals with little to no track record of success. To simply live in a place of reservation and silence, is to give your whole self over to others.
Grambling may be fine... But at what cost. Why hope to be just fine when we can hope to be great. Grambling should be maximizing its full potential; growing exponentially; leading the way; and defining its own reality. Instead, we are operating on fumes, while you are advising people to turn their heads.
That is exactly what people hope we do. Silent while we implode. The threat is not external this time, it's internal... And this is exactly what the legislatures said about Grambling, recently... They'll just close themselves—go figure.
To be fine, is to be complacent and satisfied with the status quo. I say, that is NOT sufficient. This is NOT, the Grambling way.
— All censorships exist to prevent anyone from challenging current conceptions and existing institutions. All progress is initiated by challenging current conceptions, and executed by supplanting existing institutions. Consequently, the first condition of progress is the removal of censorship.
― George Bernard Shaw

I thought GSU budget cuts were bad but when ULM has to eliminate positions then lets see will they start to descend on the Louisiana capital. ULM police department makes strides while chief's position is eliminatedThe search for a new chief of police at the University of Louisiana at Monroe was indefinitely suspended because of budget concerns. Media Relations Director Laura Woodard said school officials are waiting for changes in the university’s finances. “When the financial climate improves, we will reconsider staffing,” Woodard said. She said the department is under the supervision of Lt. Steven Mahon. Woodard said because of the school’s budget reductions, the position of chief of police was eliminated. www.thenewsstar.com/article/20130805/NEWS01/308050011/ULM-Police-Department-Steve-Mahon

What was it you wanted us to know from this article?? You read it so make your own assupmtions. You should find out what the LSU budget cut was from 2008-2013... you seem to be preoccupied with this false notion that Grambling is the only institution having to manage budget cuts and enhance revenues. That's the same 'kook aid' Pogue keeps trying to make us drink. Other university's are making major efforts to counter the cuts by upgrading their systems, staffing and expertise in order to build more self generated revenue.... and they are having success. We haven't even organized our alumni yet. But we want them to give. All the chapters and individuals are cut off and disjointed. Now we have a bunch of amateurs in positions of significant power on campus. Have you seen or know the people we have in charge at the highest level. They're a joke!! Click the link to see all the budget cuts for all educational institutions in Louisiana. www.lsusystem.edu/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/PROJECTED-LSU-SYSTEM-BUDGET-CUTS-BY-INSTITUTION.pdf

I perfectly well know that Grambling is not the only university dealing with budget cuts. Now when it comes to some not all of our staff at GSU, I tend to agree with you. But I try to give them credit they are doing the best they can or hope they are doing their best for Grambling State University.

But I try to give them credit they are doing the best they can or hope they are doing their best for Grambling State University. I agree, they are doing the best 'they' can do. The bad part is, their best is not much. Other institutions would have removed these people by now. In the book, How The Mighty Fall: And Why Some Companies Never Give In... Jim Collins says... “Bad decisions made with good intentions, are still bad decisions.” In another book, he says: “Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that become great. We don't have great schools, principally because we have good schools. We don't have great government, principally because we have good government. Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.” _ If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is near. _ Great vision without great people is irrelevant.
