Dr. Lucy J. McIntosh
Funeral services for Dr. Lucy J. McIntosh, 91, of Grambling, LA will be at 12 noon
on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling, LA with Reverend Julius R. Sumler officiating. Burial will be at Grambling Memorial Gardens under the direction of King’s Funeral Home of Ruston. The Family Hour will be from 5:30 to 7:30pm on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at King’s Funeral Home, 1511 W. California Avenue, Ruston, LA.
Dr. McIntosh passed away on January 13, 2013. Originally a native of Trenton, New Jersey, she received the B.S. degree from Hampton University, Hampton, VA. She earned both the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN. Dr. McIntosh and her husband, the late Dr. William McIntosh, spent the majority of their professional careers at Grambling State University. Dedicated to the teaching profession, she received many honors and awards including the Teacher of the Year award, Fulbright Hays study award to both China and India, and the Phelps-Stokes study award to West Africa. The Black Empowerment Apprenticeship Program (BEAP) at GSU has often honored her untiring commitment to the organization. She retired as Professor of Sociology Emeritus from Grambling State University in 1986.
Dr. McIntosh was an active member in her church, New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, Grambling, Louisiana. She was also a Golden Life member of the Grambling Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she served in many leadership capacities.
Dr. McIntosh is survived by her daughters Gwendolyn McIntosh Williams of Temecula, CA; Carol A. McIntosh of Atlanta, GA; Yvonne E. McIntosh of Tallahassee, FL; son-in-law, Terence C. Williams; grandchildren, Terence C. Williams, II of Grambling, LA and Cherolyn N. Williams of Temecula, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a myriad of friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BEAP (Black Empowerment Apprenticeship Program) at GSU, c/o the McIntosh Family, P. O. Box 242, Grambling, LA 71245.
