Grambling State celebrates homecoming playing University of Virginia-Lynchburg Saturday "Nobody has given up, I tell you that. Everybody around here isn't happy about the way things have gone. But tough guys last through tough times and that's what we have to do to start turning things around." "With the way our season has gone, if I'm Virginia-Lynchburg, I'd be coming into Grambling licking my chops," Williams said. "We certainly can't be overconfident right now, not with the way things have been going. But at the same time, with us having homecoming and all, this is our chance to getting a win under our belts." www.greenfieldreporter.com/view/story/4efee2fa8ac14ea59734624740927023/FBC--Grambling-St-Homecoming

Grambling High School alumni concert Saturday
For the third time, a group of men have reunited to give back to the high school that shaped their futures.
Back in 1970s a group of talented young men pursued their dream of musical success as a funk group called Leech and The Gang and The Funk Horns. They performed in the area and even opened for The Temptations, but their parents knew the importance of an education, especially in the 1970s and made theirs a "dream deferred.” Never forgetting the support and solid education that led to their future success, the members have come back three times to hold a benefit concert in support of Grambling High School. Saturday Oct. 20th 8pm Grambling High School gym.

GSU doesn't want to disappoint homecoming crowd Saturday The "five-week interview" for Grambling State coach Doug Williams, his staff and the team officially begins Saturday when the Tigers host Virginia University of Lynchburg for a 2 p.m. kick. Fans and alumni will flood the campus for homecoming festivities, which increases the importance of a strong showing for the Tigers. GSU (0-6) is off to the program's worst start according to available records, topping an 0-5 start in Eddie Robinson's first season in 1941. But Williams, who guided the Tigers to the 2011 SWAC championship in his first season back, thinks his team can momentum with a win. "It's like a broken record ... the coaches have to do a better of job of putting these players in position," Williams said. "We had seven drops, two of them that would have been touchdowns ... and those are the type of plays that have haunted us this season." www.thenewsstar.com/article/20121020/SPORTS/210200343/GSU-doesn-t-want-disappoint-homecoming-crowd-Saturday

Grambling seeks breakthrough on homecoming weekend GRAMBLING — Homecoming games are usually reserved for doormats and patsies — visitors happy to receive a check and take a loss back home with them. At 0-6, Grambling State finds itself in an unfamiliar role — unsure homecoming host. Despite scheduling Virginia University-Lynchburg, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, GSU coach Doug Williams said his Tigers know better than to overlook the Dragons. “If I was Lynchburg, I’d be coming in here licking my chops,†Williams said. “I got Grambling. They’re 0-6; they ain’t playing. That’s the way I’d look at it. At the same time, for our alumni, it’s going to be one of the biggest interviews. We have enough ‘theysayers’ out there as it is. This certainly will give them a chance to say whatever they want to say.†www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20121019/SPORTS02/121019019/Grambling-seeks-break-through-homecoming-weekend?odyssey=nav|head&nclick_check=1
