Port City Classic Still on for this Weekend GRAMBLING (August 30, 2012) – City of Shreveport and Grambling State University Athletic Officials have been and will be in constant contact with the National Weather Service in Shreveport to monitor the weather for the upcoming Port City Classic. The game is still scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Shreveport's Independence Stadium. Meteorologists have forecasted that the weather system currently in our area should be well north of Shreveport by Saturday and should not pose any threat to the Port City Classic festivities. In the event that the weather system does make an impact on Shreveport, officials have stated that the contingency plan is to play the game Sunday at 5 p.m. As of now it is not expected that the game will be moved as the National Weather Service continues to predict the storm will be completely out of the area by game-time Saturday. Kick-off of the 2012 Port City Classic featuring the Grambling State University Tigers and the Alcorn State University Braves is slated for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Independence Stadium. Port City Classic and Independence Stadium Game-day Information GRAMBLING (August 27, 2012) – Fans attending the Tigers season opener against Alcorn State on Saturday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m. at Shreveport's Independence Stadium are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance and to arrive at the stadium early. Beginning Monday, August 27th-Friday, August 31st, the Grambling State University Ticket Office's hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fans can purchase their tickets by stopping by the office located at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center or by calling 318-274-2625. Tickets will also be sold at Independence Stadium on Friday, August 31st from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and, on game-day, tickets will go on sale at Independence Stadium beginning at 10 a.m. Additionally, fans can purchase tickets at all area Super 1 and Brookshire Grocery stores, The State Fair of Louisiana and I-Bowl Offices, all branches of the Shreveport Federal Credit Union, Barksdale Air Force Base and online at ticketmaster.com. On game-day, General Will Call, scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m., will be located at Gate 3. The Player Will Call will be located at the NCAA gate and will open two hours before the game. Fans are reminded that all parking around Independence Stadium is paid parking and that no shuttle system will run for this contest. Parking passes can be purchased by contacting the State Fair Office at 318-635-1361. Fans can purchase parking in the White Lot ($25), Silver Lot ($20), or can choose to park in the general parking area ($10) which is located on the east side of the fairgrounds between the baseball stadium and Hirsch Coliseum. RVs can purchase a parking spot in the Green Lot ($50). There are a number of ways to enter the Independence Stadium parking areas, including: From the West on I-20 Take I-20 east to the Jewella Avenue or Hearne Avenue exits. Take either exit and turn left. From the East on I-20 Take I-20 west to the Hearne Avenue or Jewella Avenue exits. Take either exit and turn right. From the South on I-49 Take I-20 west towards Dallas. Take either the Hearne Avenue or Jewella Avenue exits and turn right. The Grambling State University Athletic Department, the Bayou Classic and The State Fair of Louisiana will be sponsoring a tailgate party from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Ag Building. Food will be provided by Super 1 Foods and the Windstorm Band will entertain fans and the GSU Admissions office will also be on site Fans are also reminded that they are prohibited from bringing the following items into Independence Stadium on game-day: outside food or drink, ice chests/coolers, umbrellas, laser pointers/lights, video cameras, oversize bags, weapons (including pocket knives and pocket tools). All bags entering Independence Stadium are subject to search. Current Louisiana State Laws prohibit smoking inside Independence Stadium. Anyone who wishes to smoke will be allowed to exit the stadium. Fans will be directed to gate personnel who will hole punch their ticket and stamp their hand. The punched ticket stub and that hand stamp will be required for re-entry into the stadium. Smoking is prohibited inside the stadium and within 25 feet of any gate.
