Doug Williams' Future at GSU in Question By: Gene Ponti Updated: March 7, 2012 Doug Williams may no longer be the head coach of the Grambling State Tigers. KTVE Sports has learned that Williams, who is in his second run at his alma mater, will go into spring drills without a contract approved by the Louisiana State Board. When Williams was hired last spring, he signed a deal with the president and then athletic director, but that contract was never sent to Baton Rouge for final approval. When Williams was hired last spring, he signed a deal with the president and then athletic director, but that contract was never sent to Baton Rouge for final approval. Now, the board wants Williams to sign a "revised" deal that will bring it more in line with other schools within the University of Louisiana System. myarklamiss.com/fulltext?nxd_id=135272

If this fall through I blame the Administration for this royal screw up and yes I said Administration. Grambling State is a public university and things must be approved by the UL System like other post on campus. This is public knowledge. I'm taken back that it was never sent to the board. WTF!

So who is working to fix this mess? Hopefully President Pogue, AD Caldwell and Coach Williams. By the way, President Pogue was in Monroe today talking to the Monroe and West Monroe business communities.

As I understand it, the issue with the contract involved bonuses that were written into Doug's contract ($10,000 for winning classic, $10,000 for winning SWAC, etc). Other state universities pay bonuses through their athletic foundations. As to why this hasn't been taken care of after a year is beyond my understanding!!!

March 7 at 8:43pm E BigBaby Scales Sr. And why he didn't have a long term contract March 7 at 8:48pm Ian Andrew Simmons This is what I would call a clerical error. That was prevalent when I attended. March 7 at 9:05pm Kim Spears Wow, really? March 7 at 9:09pm Larry Gipson Ray,who is our local person (people) on this board? I want to personally contact them, then incite or at least urge others to contact them to get this contract done.NFL Hall Of Famer Art Shell said on February 9,Grambling needs to do whatever it has to to keep Doug. A shame we in Louisiana see our best when they ate gone elsewhere.Get this done March 7 at 9:10pm Sharon Beal-Fowler I would like to see Grambling hire competent people who will be able to prevent these kind of errors. This should not have happened. Unfortunately it has so someone need to get busy repairing this and Doug should not have to wait more than 24 hours for this situation to be resolved. March 7 at 9:15pm Kim Spears Despite the apparent oversight, his contract should be honored. All the university needs is more bad press. First Rick Duckett debacle, then the Melvin Spears lawsuit and now this. Come on people. Get it together. March 7 at 9:18pm Ray Higgins This is the email for Grambling president: PogueF@gram.edu. email address for the ULS Board...ulsboardmembers@uls.state.la.us March 7 at 9:19pm Ray Higgins larry Gipson.....Rick Gallot March 7 at 9:19pm Wendell Keller Ridiculous. March 7 at 10:30pm Brandy Nunnery awwww Thursday at 12:36am William 'Yard' Nance Doug is from grambling but he's not for grambling ...he can move around but I doubt it happens Thursday at 12:50am Nolan J. Presently, I don't feel this the time to deal w/ the comments of haters and his/ or her motives. This is about the business of Grambling State University. We are not Northwestern, Nichols or any of those other Louisiana schools...WE ARE GRAMBLING and we need to handle business as such then others may recognize who we are as well. Thursday at 12:23pm Ms Randall Damn shame... Thursday at 7:20pm ยท Like Nolan J. Hymon I say YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!! Thursday at 7:24pm

I thought I saw somewhere where former coach Broadway had a contract that included performance bonuses.

Grambling State head football coach Rod Broadway has been amply rewarded for guiding the G-Men to an 8-4 overall record, a SWAC Western Division title and a birth in the SWAC championship game in his first season at GSU. On Friday, the University of Louisiana System approved a new contract for Broadway that will make him the second highest paid coach in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, trailing only Pete Richardson from Southern.
Broadway's contract has been restructured and is not a four-year extension; it is only a one-year extension to the three years left on his original contract.
However, his contract is more lucrative.
Starting this year, he will make $170,000, which is $14,000 more than his old deal, and in the last year of his contract, in 2011, he will make $215,000.
If somehow Broadway is terminated, there are options: He will get the remaining salary of the current year and a payment equal to the last year of his contract,$ 215,000, or he can be reassigned a different place on campus and remain there until his deal expires.
His incentives contracts have been also raised. He will make $7,500 for playing Division IA teams (he made $5,000 in his old deal), $6,000 for winning the Bayou Classic ($3,000 in his old deal), $5,000 for winning the SWAC West Division title ($3,000 in his old deal) and $7,500 for winning a conference crown and an undisclosed amount for finishing in the Football Conference Subdivision (Division IAA) Top 10, Coach of the Year, awards and academic performance of his players.
Before Broadway arrived at GSU, he was the head coach at North Carolina Central. During his four-year tenure at Central, he had a cumulative record of 33-11 and led the team to two CIAA Conference titles. He has also had coaching stints at: North Carolina (his alma mater), Duke, Florida and East Carolina.

His incentives contracts have been also raised. We have dumb ass troy mathieu to thank for giving broadway bonuses for losing the championship.
