Grambling State Celebrates Homecoming Week – Oct 31 – Nov 7

GRAMBLING—-Grambling State University will celebrate homecoming week Oct. 31-Nov. 7 with activities and entertainment for students, alumni and friends of the university.
Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue established this year’s theme A New Beginning as a part of a renewed university commitment to reunite the entire Grambling State family.
This year’s activities will kick off with a community-wide picnic at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, in the Quad on the Grambling State campus. This event is free and open to public.
At 7 p.m. Sunday, the Favrot Student Union Board and Campus Ministries will host a Gospel Explosion featuring local gospel choirs. This event is also free for the general public.
At 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, the Favrot Student Union Board will host a Comedy Show featuring Charlie Murphy, JJ, Tex, and Mama Michelle. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students.
Events on Thursday, Nov. 4, include an International vs. American DJ battle at 11 a.m., Car Show/Hair Show at 3 p.m. and Talent Show at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Talent Show are $10 for general admission and $5 for students. All other events are free and open to the public.
Friday, Nov. 5, festivities include two (2) showings of Stomp the Yard: Homecoming in the Favrot Student Union Movie Theatre at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with special guest appearances by cast members Lamar Stewart and Terrance J of BET’s 106 & Park. Admission is free for students and the general public.
An Old School vs. New School Concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center featuring Zapp, SOS Band, Dondria, and Young Jeezy. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $15 for students.
Alumni festivities begin Fri., Nov. 5 with the Grambling University National Alumni Association (GUNAA) Scholarship Golf Classic at Trails End in Arcadia at 7 a.m. The cost is $75 per player, which includes ½ cart, green fees, food and drinks. An Alumni Convocation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m.-noon in the Floyd L. Sandle Theater located inside the Hutchinson Performing Arts Building. GSU alumnus Kerry Briggs (‘79), Founder/Owner of Briggs Field Services, Houston, TX is the featured speaker. This event is free and open to the public.
The Dunbar Art Gallery is hosting a special Welcome Home Art Exhibition on Friday from Noon-4 p.m. in the Dunbar Hall Art Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
At 6 p.m. on Friday, a special football alumni reception will be held in the Eddie G. Robinson Museum for former football players. For more information on this event, contact Ray Higgins at (318) 274-2210.
Other alumni activities include: Registration/Hospitality at the Alumni Center; an Alumni Breakfast on Sat. from 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. in the President’s Dining Hall; and the Black and Gold Banquet (TBA).
This year’s homecoming parade begins at 9 a.m. in downtown Grambling, travels through the Grambling State campus and ends on South Main Street. Tailgating activities end at noon on Sunday.
The Greek Step Show will be held on Sat., Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Admission is $15 for general admission and $10 for students.
The GSU Tigers take on Concordia College at 2 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 6 at Eddie Robinson Stadium.

Homecoming 2010
General Parking, Tailgating & Ticket Information
Parking
1. General parking on Homecoming Game Day is $5.
2. The following lots/streets are available for general parking on Homecoming Day:
a. Woodson
b. Adams
c. Cole Street
d. Nursing Building (back lot)
e. Stewart
f. Central Street
g. Facilities Drive
h. Drew Apartments
i. Main Street Gravel Lot (across from GSU Police)
3. The Nursing Building Grass Lot (adjacent to Basketball Courts) and the Construction Lot on Cole Street are the premier lots for general tailgating. Once these lots fill, the University will open additional spaces.
4. Handicapped parking is available in front of the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center (13 spaces) on a first come first served basis for $5. Additional Handicapped parking is also reserved for game patrons on the left side of the Hutchinson Lot (32 spaces). A shuttle bus will take patrons from Handicapped parking areas to the Robinson Stadium. Any patron needing assistance should inform the parking attendant at the entrance to the parking area and transportation will be provided to assist them to the stadium.
5. The shuttle buses will run continuous on Homecoming Day. Look for pick up and drop off points throughout the campus.
Tailgating
1. The general cost for tailgating in approved locations is $40 per day. The cost for RV’s, campers, large trailers or large tents is $40 per day, in advance.
2. The cost for SUV tailgaters, small trailers or barbeque grills is $40 per day.
RV space in the Nursing and Construction lot is available to patrons on a first come first serve basis. Additional spaces could be made available depending on the weather conditions.

1. On Homecoming Day, satellite ticket booths will be located from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the Long Jones Hall Cashier’s Office and the GSU Police Station. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., tickets may be purchased at Gates 4 & 5 of Robinson Stadium. Cash only.
2. Reserved seating, cash and credit card purchases may be made at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
3. Non-student ticket pricing: $17 general admission; $20 reserved seating (in advance); $20 general admission (game day); $25 reserved seating (game day).

We are getting ready for Homecoming 2010 and Bayou Classic 2010. Homecoming is November 5th-6th and Bayou Classic is November 26th-27th. Preparations are being made for you and we are looking forward to having a really great time at the annual events.
The GUNAA Homecoming schedule is as follows:

The Bayou Classic seems to be shaping up to be another fun filled weekend. The Coaches Luncheon, the Battle of the Bands/Greek Show, the annual Bayou Classic Breakfast, the ever exciting gridiron contest and the Annual Scholarship Concert are the slated activities. We are again lodging at the Riverfront Hilton Hotel. The rate for the hotel rooms is 139.00 for single –quads ( we are still working with the hotel to make some adjustments). The code for the room block is simply GRA. Please call the Hilton reservation at 1-800-HILTONS.
This year, the Blues Concert will feature “The Hole in the Wall” man, Mel Waiters as entertainment. Tickets are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis and can be purchased at the Alumni Center. Currently, we are attempting to establish agreements with your local alumni chapters for sales. We are asking each chapter to be responsible to sell a minimum of fifty concert tickets. Ticket prices are $35.00 (single) or $350.00 for a table of 10. As is traditional, the concert will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton.
Our main fundraising activity for this year is a raffle. The prize for the raffle is $5,000.00. Tickets are $5.00 each. Funds from this raffle will be used for scholarships and operational expenses. We need your support to have a successful activity. Please sell all of the enclosed tickets. Once you have sold/purchased the 20 tickets, please return the stubs and payment to the national office by November 18, 2010. All checks/money orders must be made payable to GUNAA (please no cash by mail).

New Orleans, LA – Event organizers for the legendary State Farm Bayou Classic® announced today that tickets for the 37th annual event, between the Grambling State University Tigers and Southern University Jaguars, are on sale now through Ticketmaster and the respective schools. Dubbed the “granddaddy” of African-American collegiate sporting events and the “Super Bowl” of black college football, this year’s Bayou Classic will take place at 1:00pm CST on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Louisiana Superdome, home of Super Bowl XLIV Champions, the New Orleans Saints. For the 19th consecutive year, the game will air live on NBC.
