SEC. DARDENNE PRESENTS MUSEUM EDUCATION PROGRAM TO BESE
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne presented Developing Necessary Attributes for Life, a statewide character education program, to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education at this morning’s meeting. The program assists educators in developing caring, principled and responsible adults.
The heart of the DNA for Life program is the Coach Eddie G. Robinson Continuing the Legacy Character Education Program. Robinson was a legendary coach, a great teacher and an extraordinary man. These values form the foundation of the 22-week Continuing the Legacy Character Education Program for high school students; the 10-week Winning with Honor Program for grades 5 through 8 and the nine-week About Me Program for grades 1 through 4.
“As we began the development of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum, we recognized that Coach Rob’s personal philosophy and the manner in which he conducted his life are great lessons for Louisiana’s young people,” Secretary Dardenne said. “That gave rise for us to create the program we now have submitted to BESE which will enable us to have it included in the statewide curricula.”
BESE members Connie Bradford, principal of Cedar Creek School in Ruston, and Walter Lee, De Soto Parish Schools superintendent, offered to pilot the program. The board reported the program favorably to State Superintendent Paul Pastorek with a request to form and implement a plan for its application.
Secretary Dardenne, education consultant Memory Seymour, Executive Assistant/Director of Special Projects Cathy Berry and Director of Museum Education Richard Hartley developed the program. For more information about the Secretary of State’s Office, visit our website at www.sos.louisiana.gov.
