Charles Edward Wilson, Jr. (06-10-2009)
Photo of Charles Edward Wilson, Jr. Charles Edward Wilson, Jr. (affectionately called, “Lurch” by friends and acquaintances) was born on January 28, 1968 in Ruston, LA. He assumed and embraced all the status and perks of being the first maternal grandchild and nephew. Charles completed his early elementary grades and middle school at A.E. Phillips and graduated in May of 1986 from Ruston High School. He went on to play college football at Grambling State University under the legendary Eddie Robinson.
Charles was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church at an early age and continued his membership until his death. It was in this nurturing environment, with family reinforcement, that his foundation of faith was established. In the summer of 2007 Charles announced his calling to the ministry and preached his first sermon on September 2, 2007.
To know Charles was to love him. He had an endearing personality and great sense of humor. Family was most important to him. The highlight of his life was the birth of his son, John Payton, three years ago. His circle was made. Therefore, it was not surprising that in the waning days of his life Charles expanded his depleting strength and energy to contact as many of this circle as he could to declare his love and to convey the assurance that, “it is well with my soul.”
